Whether you are city slicking or taking it to the country, nothing beats having a cold one on a hot day while catching a few rays. While snacks are the main go-to for outdoor meetups and potlucks with your closest buds, we believe there’s merit in volunteering to bring a memorable refresher. Water is great and all, but there are more tasty ways to stay hydrated!
From caryophyllene to terpinolene, there are endless recipes to incorporate fragrant terpenes into your summer cocktails. Luckily for those of us who prefer cannabis over booze, there’s always a new product drop that we are eager to test out thanks to the evolving infused beverage landscape. Here’s a list of mocktails for your next outdoor hang.
Please consume responsibly – with sunscreen!
Toronto Island Iced Tea
This iced tea is packed with a tart citrus finish and comes without a hangover – making it a perfect mocktail or mixer any day of the week! A long-time classic with a new twist and loaded with limonene and a hint of pinene, making it a perfect refresher for those especially hot days.
What you’ll need:
¼ cup Haven st. premium cannabis – no. 550 rise tea
50 ml apple cider vinegar
400 ml ginger beer
Ice
2 lemons, juiced, plus 1 lemon, sliced
Sprigs of fresh thyme
Directions:
Brew tea, let cool then mix all ingredients except for the thyme. For at home indoor or patio enjoyment pour into a serving jug. For a park hang, use a travel-friendly insulated thermos and bring some non-breakable cups!
Helpful tips:
Prepare this batch in advance and chill in the freezer for 15-20 minutes before heading out. This will keep the batch extra cool before adding ice so it doesn’t get too watered down before you reach the park.
Add a sprig of fresh thyme and a lemon wedge to each individual glass after you pour for some added flair and flavour – et voila!
Rosemary Citrus Mojito
This booze-free twist on the long-time classic mixes well with TGOD’s THC drink crystals.
What you’ll need:
2 wedges each of lime, orange and lemon per glass
A handful of fresh mint (enough to be divided between servings)
2 sprigs of rosemary
2 bottles of House of Terpenes – limonene & sparkling tonic (355ml)
Crushed ice
Tonic water of your choice
Directions:
In a 12oz highball glass, muddle the lime, orange and lemon wedges
Slap a handful of fresh mint to release aromatics and then add the leaves from one of the rosemary sprigs
Pour House of Terpenes sparkling tonic
Add a scoop of crushed ice and mix
Top with tonic water
Garnish with a sprig of rosemary
OG Lemonade with CBD
Okay, so you’ve probably been making this since you were a kid and before lemonade stands required a vendor permit, but this one comes with a twist.
Gather ye lemons (4-6), a jar of honey, ice, a fancy jug, your favourite pitcher and a packet of Ripple by TGOD – dissolvable cbd powder.
Directions:
Halve the lemons and squeeze them with a handheld juicing press into a jug
Add water and stir in honey until dissolved
Add dissolvable CBD powder until blended
Add ice and garnish with a few lemon slices (round)
Balanced Lavender Lemonade
This recipe is slightly higher maintenance (but well worth it), requiring a simple syrup that’s packed with soothing linalool. For added vibrancy, we love adding butterfly pea powder to naturally boost the violet hue.
What you’ll need:
6 cups water divided
1/2 cup of sugar
1/4 cup of honey
3 tablespoons of dried lavender
2 cups lemon juice
Lemon slices and lavender flowers for garnish
Butterfly pea flowers or powder
Directions:
Add two cups of sugar to two cups of water in a pot over medium heat. Bring to a boil until sugar is dissolved. Turn off of the heat and stir in honey and lavender.
Depending on your preference for flavour intensity, allow mixture to steep for up to 2 hours. Strain the liquid by pressing lavender in the strainer to ensure maximum flavour.
In a large pitcher, combine freshly squeezed lemon juice, lavender mixture and water.
For a more vibrant drink, stir in butterfly pea powder for an added violet hue, which will magically turn magenta once combined with citrus. Serve over ice.
Mango CBD Margarita
No terpene-inspired cocktail list would be complete without a homage to the almighty mango. This margarita will leave you saying “Lord, have myrcene!”
Guaranteed to be a crowd pleaser, this drink is great for large or small gatherings and pairs well with citrus (we love lime!).
There you have a roundup of some our fave refreshing mocktails to sip on and catch a vibe while the temps are high.
What you’ll need:
2 cups of fresh or store-bought frozen mangoes. Fresh mangoes will have better flavour but both work well – depending on your energy levels and inspiration.
Lime juice – A margarita essential! It makes this cocktail zingy and bright.
Ice – It dilutes the margarita and makes it extra-frosty and cold.
Zest from limes and sea salt to rim the glassware.
Directions:
Add the frozen mango, lime juice, Everie CBD mango passionfruit sparkling water to a high-speed blender, blending until smooth.
Add the ice, and blend again until the mixture is smooth and frosty.
Taste, and adjust the balance if necessary.
Garnish with a slice of lime and enjoy!
